That's the sourcing philosophy of our Union in a nutshell.
We only want the most exceptional coffee beans – those within the top two per-cent of the world’s coffee harvest. And the only way to get these is by working directly, fairly and sustainably with coffee farmers.
We work direct because we want to ensure every labourer is rewarded fairly so they pick only the best. And we want to know each farm’s land so we can identify the top crop.
We pay above the Fairtrade minimum price to secure the best beans and recognise the farmer's efforts. We also buy their coffees at the farm gate to give them the highest possible return.
We set up minimum purchasing commitments with each farm so they can sustainably plan for the next harvest. We forward finance for those smallholders most in need. And we pay additional premiums for areas of investment where we feel the quality can be improved.
