Organic Explained

Accredited Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent fertilisers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organisations verify that organic farmers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production.

In order for coffee to be certified and sold as organic, it must be produced in accordance with UK standards for organic production and inspected and certified by International environmental agencies. These agencies must be on the approved list by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Union Hand-Roasted is licenced by the Soil Association which is the UK organic certifying agency that probably has the highest and most comprehensive standards for organic production and processing in the world.

Organic farming practices support the meticulous ecological balance maintained on farms and contribute to the extraordinary high quality of our coffee.
