A beautifully balanced coffee with white grapes, dates, cane sugar and a lingering sweetness.

Juani Cordero built his own micromill in 2008 to process his own coffee. He started with a small amount of 85 quintals (qq). This season he is harvesting three times greater volumes. His farm is located at 1850 mASL, and his varieties are Red Catuai, Yellow Catuai and Caturra. He processes almost his complete harvest at his micromill, except for the very first early season pick which is of variable quality. He doesn’t want to compromise overall high quality that he produces, so he sells this early season coffee into the local market. He estimates that next years’ harvest, 2015/16 will produce double the volumes.

Extensive pruning and experienced farm management promotes new tissue growth (shiny green leaves) on the 16,000 coffee trees, this will double the harvest size for the following year season. The farm is managed without herbicides, is fully shade-grown and on-time fertilization. One could call it a semi-organic management and low level weeds retained give the farm a comforting rustic feel, compared to some farms which look like immaculate show gardens. Even though the farms’ neighbours are affected by leaf rust disease, this is not a problem at the farm because of excellent farm management skills. Juani Cordero regularly replants his farm with new trees so now his oldest trees are 20 years old, with others at 15, 5 and 2 years old. The complete farm covers an area of 12 manzanas the unit of measurement used in Costa Rica, which is equivalent to 8.4 hectares. He manages the farm with his son Gravin and one other full-time worker. However, during the harvest they employ 20-25 pickers who are mostly from the local village, San Pablo, and also some workers from Panama.

We aim to despatch all orders within 2 working days of receiving them. During peak mail order periods (for instance, Christmas or other promotional activities), this timeframe may be extended slightly, although every effort will be made to despatch your order as soon as possible.

All our coffees are roasted to order so we require at least one working day before we can despatch your order

After listening to what many of our customers have told us they like (and don't like) we have made some changes to the way we charge you for delivery and how we send your orders. The good news is it should make it cheaper for you to receive our coffee and less likely you'll miss a delivery.

Standard delivery is charged at £2 per order (mainland UK)
For all orders over £40 (before delivery) or over 2KG in weight, delivery is FREE

Convenient Delivery packaging

In an effort to reduce wasteful packaging and also make delivery more convenient for you. If your order is 2 x 200g bags of coffee or less your delivery will be sent in a box designed to fit through your letterbox. So you no longer need to wait in for your Union Coffee delivery.
N.B not all letterboxes are made equal. Our boxes are designed to meet the Royal Mail letterbox guidelines, sadly this doesn't cover all letterboxes. We've discovered that older houses can often have unusual dimensions and the box may not fit through.
