A fantastic coffee, with a rich, smooth aftertaste that lasts and lasts. Grown on smallholder farms around Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza. That’s ‘Environmental Fortress Farm’ in Portuguese – where farmers produce beautiful coffees, in a sustainable way.
fazendas bobolink, mococa, Brazil
Our direct trade coffee from Brazil is grown on small-producer farms, all neighbours’ of Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, located in some of the best producing regions in Brazil. They share a common vision to produce excellent coffees and a commitment to sustainable agriculture, reducing the harmful effects of humans on the planet.
These small-producer farms are collectively called “Bob-o-Link” and are co-ordinated by Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (Environmental Fortress Farm) who support the smallholders located high in the mountains with agronomy training and market access. Their coffees are picked selectively and carefully dried on terraces or raised beds by the farmers, with final dry mill preparations at Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza.
The Bobolink farmers embrace the Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza (FAF) mission of utilizing sustainable agriculture methods with their focus on producing high quality coffee to transform productive and profitable farms. They strive to create a happier living environment through the proper use of the land’s natural resource
The Croce family of Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza, work with small producer, training them to transition towards organic with coffee trees grown without artificial inputs. Indigenous trees are planted among the coffee so that a forest-like canopy develops which nurture the coffee trees, creating shade as well as providing an environment for diverse species of plants and animals.
The farms with their natural forest corridors provide overwintering homes for the migratory New World Blackbird, commonly called the Bob-o-Link bird (Dolichonynx oryzivorus) because of its distinctive call. The Bob-o-Link bird complete one of the longest known migrations for any neotropical songbird, breeding in the grasslands of North America and wintering in South America, particularly Brazil. The Bob-o-Link has now been recorded in the British Isles so we are delighted to participate in promoting this approach towards sustainable agriculture.
