HOW TO SOURCE, ROAST, GRIND AND BREW THE PERFECT CUP

People often ask a question that we find impossible to answer: ‘How do I find the coffee that’s right for me?’ For us, coffee is always about a willingness to explore. If you take the view that our tastes and preferences may depend upon mood, time of day, or what else we happen to be eating or drinking at the time – and you buy into the view that coffees can and do taste different – we don’t think that any single country, continent, farm or blend can offer a single answer. It’s an approach that we rarely take in other food or drink choices – after all, do you only ever buy one type or style of wine? Do you only eat one kind of food, whether Italian or Turkish or Vietnamese? Didn’t think so. So why narrow the focus when you’re dealing with coffee?

This book contains what we've learned from living and loving good coffee over the past two decades. We take you through the whole coffee process, from origin via hand-roasting to how to make the perfect brew at home. With some sprinklings of coffee tales along our journey, the changes in the coffee scene since we began and how proud we are to now be one of the leading Speciality Coffee companies in the UK.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Coffee is the most popular drink worldwide with around two billion cups consumed every day and more and more people are turning to good quality, fair trade coffee (premiumisation); evident by the number of independent coffee shops opening up in towns and cities as well as the number of us playing home barista as the choice of specialist beans and professional coffee-making gadgets grows. Real Fresh Coffee is the indispensable guide for those who want to understand more about how to source and brew quality coffee so that you can choose your beans and make your perfect cup of fresh coffee with confidence. The book follows the chain from farming, processing, grading, shipping, roasting and brewing; teach you the full range of coffee styles available in modern coffee shops and how to recreate good quality coffee at home; learn to identify regional and varietal differences; and how to make signature drinks.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Jeremy Torz & Steven Macatonia founded Union Hand-Roasted Coffee in 2001. They have been a driving force in the UK coffee-scene since the mid-1990s when they opened what was the country's first boutique micro-roastery. Union Hand-Roasted Coffee was behind the successful growth of the UK's first quality coffee bar chain, and in recent years the two coffee-obsessed proprietors have developed an industry-leading platform for sustainable sourcing of premium quality coffees direct from farmers and producers around the world. Union Hand-Roasted Coffee supplies some of the finest restaurants, cutting edge cafes and retailers around the UK and direct from their roastery through unionroasted.com to enthusiastic coffee drinkers at home.

Convenient Delivery packaging

In an effort to reduce wasteful packaging and also make delivery more convenient for you. If your order is 2 x 200g bags of coffee or less your delivery will be sent in a box designed to fit through your letterbox. So you no longer need to wait in for your Union Coffee delivery.
N.B not all letterboxes are made equal. Our boxes are designed to meet the Royal Mail letterbox guidelines, sadly this doesn't cover all letterboxes. We've discovered that older houses can often have unusual dimensions and the box may not fit through.
